Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born July 12 1988, is a Canadian actress/singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian woman to be the winner of Canadian Idol's third season, which aired in 2005. She is known best as an actress due to her roles in the series Syfy as Two and as Rebeccaand Portia Lin as well as on ABC as Officer Lucy Chen in the ABC procedural drama series The Rookie. Shocked by this, the judges asked viewers to cast their votes for contestants similar to Melissa who was clearly a singer with the greatest vocal talent. O'Neil was acknowledged for her talent and she did not drop back to the third place. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the entire contest. The 7th of September, 2005 O'Neil got into the final two contestants of the competition, alongside Rex Goudie, and after another stunning performance and performances, judge Werner famously declared that the headlines of the next day's newspapers would be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead Long live the Queen." In the grand final results presentation on September 14, 2005, O'Neil defeated Goudie to become the third Canadian Idol, as well as the first female winner and (at 17) the youngest contestant in history.
